It is highly recommend that students carry their own supply of soap and/or hand sanitiser to ensure that they can continue to follow recommended personal hygiene actions.
Accessing supplies of some soap and other sanitisers for student use continues to be challenging. At this time we cannot guarantee that this will always be available in classrooms and toilets. The Department is working to secure additional supplies of soap and hand sanitiser for schools.
Our biggest barrier is students intentionally damaging soap dispensers and hand drying supplies resulting in supplies being wasted.
I would strongly encourage parents discuss the importance of students respecting the need for soap and sanitiser being available for everyone and not damaging products made available. All damage should be reported.
Below are the guidelines related to hygiene to reduce the risk of the spread of communicable disease:
At this time it is recommended that the following is considered for staff and students:
· wash hands with soap and running water when hands are visibly dirty;
· wash hands with soap and water and use alcohol based hand rub (ABHR), before and after eating or prior to food preparation;
· wash hands with soap and water after going to the toilet;
· avoid using handkerchiefs;
· cough and sneeze with a tissue or bent elbow, dispose of used tissues immediately, and use ABHR or soap and water;
· avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose;
· if unwell, avoid contact with others;
· make sure workplaces are clean and hygienic, surfaces (e.g. desks and tables) and objects (e.g. telephones, keyboards) need to be wiped with disinfectant regularly.
