Bring Your Own Device Program

Australind Senior High School operates a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) arrangement for all students in Years 7–12. Students are encouraged to bring an approved device to school to support their learning and access digital resources.

Device Requirements

Families may purchase devices from any supplier. Devices in the $400 to $1000 range are suitable for most students. Minimum specifications:

  • Storage: Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Capacity: 128GB–256GB (or higher preferred)
  • Memory (RAM): Minimum 8GB (16GB recommended for Windows 11 or MacBook)
  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.15.4 or later

Note: Phones, Chromebooks, and Android tablets (including Samsung tablets) are not suitable for school use.

Software Access

All students have free access to Microsoft Office 365 for the duration of their enrolment, including:

  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more
  • Up to 100GB of OneDrive cloud storage
  • Installation on up to three devicesStudents can log in with their school credentials at portal.office365.com.

Other Considerations

  • Portability: Fits easily into a school bag
  • Protective Bag: A sturdy padded case
  • Warranty: Check length and coverage
  • Backup: Portable or cloud-based solution

Insurance

Personal devices remain the responsibility of the student and are not covered by school insurance. Families should ensure devices are covered under home and contents insurance.

Connecting to the School Network

Students can connect to the school wireless network on-site using their username and password. Two networks are available: WIRELESS-5 and WIRELESS-2.4.
