Australind Senior High School is a Registered Training Provider (RTO) – National Provider No 50533.

Admission to Vocational Education and Training (VET) Programs

Admission to VET programs at Australind Senior High School utilises a selection process that gives the student every opportunity to access our VET courses.

There are general prerequisites of C grade or better in English and Mathematics. However, candidates will be selected on merit, based on interest, commitment and work habits. Students are counselled before admission to help with selections; this ensures that students from a wide range of social, economic and educational backgrounds have equal access to the VET programs.

Students must be prepared to attend regularly, participate in all activities, be committed to success and take personal responsibility.

Fees and Charges

A list of charges is attached to students’ booklists and given to students prior to the commencement of the course. Fees are collected and safeguarded according to the Financial Management Regulations 2007 (WA) and as per the Contributions Charges and Fees Manual (Department of Education).

Marketing

Australind Senior High School (Australind SHS) Registered Training Organisation (RTO – National Code 50533) advertises VET courses in an ethical manner. Only courses and qualifications on the RTO Scope of Registration (www.training.gov.au) and approved by the Western Australian Training Accreditation Council (WA TAC) and School curriculum standards Authority (SCSA) are advertised.

On successful completion of all required units, ASHS (RTO 50533) will issue students with a nationally recognised Certificate II qualification.

If a student completes only part of the course requirements and does not meet all qualification rules, the RTO will issue a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. This document confirms the skills and knowledge achieved and can be used as evidence for employment, further study, or to support credit transfer into another qualification.

Auspiced Programs

In addition to the qualifications delivered directly by Australind SHS (RTO 50533), the school also offers nationally recognised training through auspicing arrangements with external Registered Training Organisations. These courses are delivered by Australind SHS staff using the school’s facilities and resources.

Australind SHS is committed to supporting students to complete their chosen qualification. In the unlikely event that a course cannot be delivered in full, the school will make every effort to arrange an alternative pathway to ensure students can complete their studies.

Delivery and Assessment

Students can be expected to be engaged in practical learning activities, which will maximise their future training pathways and career options.

Australind Senior High School has the materials, facilities and appropriately trained staff to deliver within its scope of nationally recognised training.

Staff at Australind Senior High School are committed to students being provided with a learning environment that adheres to a strict Code of Conduct.

Students receive an Assessment and Delivery Plan for their training program. This plan will show what competencies will be assessed, where and when the assessment will occur, and the assessment methods to be used.

VET courses are generally delivered over one year. Workplace learning placement (work experience) is organised by the Workplace Coordinator for each student each year, who has a comprehensive network of employers keen to take our students.

Complaints and Appeals

Australind Senior High School has a Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedure. Complaints and appeals will be dealt with fairly, efficiently and effectively; with the intention of resolving the complaint/appeal as early as possible. A student may appeal against an assessment result and if successful in their appeal, they will have the opportunity for reassessment.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process whereby skills acquired from life, work experience; formal or informal training can be formally acknowledged and recognised. RPL can apply to one or more units of competency or even a whole course.

National Recognition/Credit Transfer

As a Registered Training Organisation, Australind Senior High School recognises the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations.

Student Welfare and Guidance Services

Australind Senior High School follows a whole school approach of a caring school. Thus all VET students have full access to the full range of welfare and guidance services.

Attendance and Behaviour

Students who undertake any of the vocational education training at Australind Senior High School are expected to conform to the school’s rules on attendance, behaviour and dress code.

  • attendance at school for all periods and functions including compulsory sporting carnivals.
  • punctual attendance for all lessons
  • application to set class or activities
  • completion of set assignment, tasks or homework
  • acceptable classroom behaviour
  • if absent, on return, provision of valid explanation in writing from parents or doctor, within 7 days of return to school
  • meeting school dress code requirements as set for the VET course
  • abiding by all school rules.

Students With Special Needs

Students recognised with special needs include, but are not limited to:

  • Vision and Verbal impairment
  • Physical disability
  • Intellectually disadvantaged
  • Indigenous and culturally diverse backgrounds

Staff delivering VET competencies who have students with special needs in their group will develop a suitable supportive learning program in line with our Student Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
