Life Skills
At Australind SHS, we believe that every child should be welcome and have their educational needs met in every classroom. Life Skills is a unique inclusive education program supporting students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties. It is vertical classroom, with students from Year 7 – 12 learning in one, purpose-built classroom. Positive relationships is at the heart of our Life Skills program, with emphasis placed on collaboration and cooperation between the students.
Our specialist staff deliver individualised, evidence-based programmes, to develop each child’s educational and social skills. Our approach to learning sees the curriculum taught continually throughout the day using direct instruction, with appropriate differentiation for each student. Students participate in a range of activities throughout the school day, including individual, small-group and whole class tasks. Students access specialist classes, such as Art, Food, Science, Physical Education, Digital Technologies and Design Technology. Some students may participate in the same classes as their mainstream peers, such as Mathematics and English.
If you would like more information about our Life Skills program, please contact the School to arrange a tour and an informal meet and greet with our Inclusion Coordinator.
